Robert ‘Bob’ Pekarchuk, M.PE. CFP (Retired). April 18, 1952 – May 9, 2021.

Peacefully at home surrounded by family on Sunday May 9, 2021 at the age of 69. Never one to complain, Bob bravely fought his 20 year battle with a brain tumour. Beloved husband of Mary Cohan-Pekarchuk. Bob/Father to Paul Cohan (Trish) and Jay Cohan (late Maureen). Father of Ryan Pekarchuk and Robyn Jansma (Dave). Popie to Melissa & Cameron Cohan, Kristie Dunlop (Nathan), Kyle Beaulieu (Sophie), Shayne Cohan, Vance & Kass Jansma. Grampie to Erika (Kellie Chapman). Great Popie to Kalea, Dexter, Godric, Baylee, Fallon & Senna.

Predeceased by his parents Wassili and Helen Pekarchuk of Kenora. Brother to Alan Pekarchuk (Pat) of Keewatin and Diane Ouwehand (Tom) of Dryden. Bob also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Born and raised in Kenora Ontario, Bob enjoyed travelling back to his roots in Northwestern Ontario to visit family and fish at Locke Bay on the Winnipeg River.

Bob loved to travel and was an all-around athlete in his younger days, playing baseball, skiing, and West Carleton Old Timers Hockey. Many memories were made with family and friends on ski vacations throughout Ontario, Quebec and parts of the United States.

Bob & Mary enjoyed many wonderful and memorable trips together and had a particular affinity to cruises. Some of their favourite trips took them to Alaska, Portugal, the Mediterranean, Australia & New Zealand, South America and camping in the USA & Canada. They also enjoyed many family visits to South Carolina.

As a dedicated member of the Bethel United Church in Kinburn, he played a large part with the Church food booth each year at the Carp Fair.

He always had an entrepreneurial spirit as he dabbled in many business ventures over the years such as a microbrewery, break-dancers showcase, canoe rentals, and managing a popular local rock band.

Something that was near and dear to Bob’s heart was his love of football. He was highly involved in the The Ottawa Rough Riders Alumni Association and was a season ticket holder for many years for the Rough Riders and the Redblacks.

Bob was probably best known for his great sense of humour, and was still cracking jokes right until the end.

The family would like to thank the nurses and PSWs from Bayshore Nursing who tended to Bob and gave him the utmost respectable care. They’d like to specially thank Dr. Spacek and nurse Victoria for the special care received.

Respecting Bob’s wishes there will be no funeral service; at a later date a private family gathering will be held to celebrate his life.
