Surrounded by loved ones, Kyle Vezzaro passed peacefully in the exceptional care of the Ottawa Civic ICU following an unexpected medical event.
Kyle is survived by his mother Lynda Trites and father Corrado Vezzaro; his three sisters Ryanna (Sean), Riley (Devin), and Tyanna (Moe); his nieces and nephews Jude, Rory, Isla, Mila, and Denver; his maternal grandmother Janet Trites and paternal grandfather Luigi Vezzaro; his aunt Morena (Frank) and uncle Nilvio (Sihem); and his cousins Amadeo (Rebecca) and Raphael. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather Peter Trites, paternal grandmother Cesarina Vezzaro, and uncle David Trites.
The family also wishes to acknowledge Sue, Oliver and Libbie Lumley-Pfeil and the Power Hockey Ottawa community, who held a deeply meaningful place in Kyle’s heart.
Born at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, Kyle entered this world already defying the odds. From the very beginning, he surpassed every expectation placed before him, outliving a prognosis that once limited him to just ten years and growing into an extraordinary young man whose bright smile and presence touched everyone around him. He was, and will always be, deeply loved and cherished.
Kyle was a warrior, an inspiration, a leader, and a voice for others. He excelled as an advocate throughout his life, proudly representing youth and disability communities across Ottawa, and was deeply committed to advancing Spinal Muscular Atrophy research.
Kyle was actively involved in his community, serving for many years as team manager of the Carleton Ravens Basketball program. He also served as a youth council representative for Goulbourn Township and held a deep passion for politics, civic engagement, and public service.
While his disease affected his mobility, it never diminished his spirit, determination, or ability to dream big. He was generous, selfless, and always put others before himself, creating space for everyone to belong. He was also a pioneer in Ottawa’s Power Wheelchair hockey community, working to ensure others had access to the sport he loved.
Kyle also brought joy wherever he went, known for his humour, warmth, and ability to make people smile. That light will continue to live on in all who knew him.
Even in his passing, Kyle’s impact continues through the gift of organ donation, reflecting his lifelong compassion and selflessness.
Kyle’s life was one of courage, generosity, and purpose. He will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and the Ottawa community, but his legacy will live on in every life he touched.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the Lanark County Paramedics, Ornge Critical Care Teams, Carleton Place Hospital Emergency Team, Pembroke ICU Team, Ottawa Civic ICU Team, and Trillium Gift of Life Network, with special thanks to the Ottawa Civic ICU nurses and Dr. Shane English.
In Kyle’s memory, please consider supporting the fight against Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
