• In Loving Memory of Danielle Andrée Stewart

With profound sadness and endless love, we announce the peaceful passing of Danielle Andrée Stewart on July 24, 2026, at Bruyère Health – St. Vincent Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, in Ottawa.

Danielle was truly one of life’s rare and beautiful souls. Kind, gentle, selfless, and endlessly loving, she touched the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her warmth, compassion, and unwavering devotion to her family defined her life and left a lasting imprint on all who loved her.

Born to Dr. Ermand Francis Stewart of Philipsburg, Pennsylvania, and Carmelle Bergholtz of Ottawa, both predeceased, Danielle carried forward the values of kindness, grace, and generosity throughout her life.

Above all else, family was Danielle’s greatest joy and proudest accomplishment. She was the devoted and loving mother of her three cherished sons: Jim Murray of Toronto, John Murray of Victoria, British Columbia, and Jared Murray, who predeceased her in 2024. She loved her boys with all her heart and gave them a lifetime of unconditional love, support, and encouragement.

Danielle found her greatest happiness in being « Nana » to her beloved granddaughter, Valerie Jane Murray. Their bond was one of pure love, joy, and adoration, and Valerie will forever carry Nana’s gentle spirit in her heart. Danielle was also a treasured second mother to Valerie’s mother, Cheryl Laatsch, whom she loved as family. Her kindness, guidance, acceptance, and unwavering support created a relationship built on deep love, respect, and friendship.

A graduate of the Nursing Program at Ottawa Civic Hospital, Danielle’s nursing career reflected exactly who she was—a caregiver by nature. Her compassion, empathy, and genuine concern for others made her not only an exceptional nurse but also a source of comfort and strength to countless people throughout her life.

Danielle had a special place in her heart for animals and loved them all, especially dogs. Her compassionate spirit extended to every living creature, and her gentle nature made the world a kinder place for both people and animals alike.

She will be lovingly remembered by her sister-in-law Madeline Bertrand (late twin brother Gregory) of Ottawa; Peter (Janice) Ayotte of Edmonton; and Scott Murray and Sheila Handke of Pembroke, as well as many dear friends whose lives were enriched by her friendship and love.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Danielle’s treasured friends Nancy and Don Manton, Dawn and Eric Junop, and Anna-Mary and Bob Folz for the love, compassion, and steadfast support they provided throughout the years, and especially during her illness. Their friendship was a true blessing in her life.

A special thank you is also extended to the wonderful nurses and caregivers of Bayshore Nursing, whose kindness and dedicated care brought comfort and dignity to Danielle during her time at home. She deeply appreciated each of you.

Though our hearts are broken, we take comfort in knowing that Danielle’s beautiful spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched. She was the very definition of unconditional love—a devoted mother, a cherished Nana, a loyal friend, and a woman whose kindness knew no bounds. She was beautiful inside and out, and her memory will forever be a guiding light to those who loved her.

And for those who loved Danielle, every cardinal that appears may serve as a gentle reminder that love never truly leaves us. It remains with us, comforting us, watching over us, and connecting us to those we hold forever in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, Danielle requested that donations be made in her memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Huntington Society of Canada, or the Humane Society.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Family Memorial Funeral Services in Ottawa and Murphy Funeral Home in Pembroke.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 280 Lourdesview Drive,  in Pembroke on Saturday,  August 1, 2026 at 10:00.
