Dec 28, 1942 - Jul 19, 2026
It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Annie Werstiuk of Dunrobin, Ontario on July 19, 2026 at the age of 83.
Annie was born in Ardmore, Alberta to Nick and Serafina Kowalchuk. She grew up in Glendon, Alberta where she met her high school sweetheart and future husband, Harvey. After high school, Annie trained as a nursing aide in Edmonton, Alberta.
Annie and Harvey were married on October 28, 1961, in Glendon, Alberta. Following Harvey’s university graduation, they made their way across the country to Ottawa through Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. They settled on a beautiful acreage on the Ottawa River, where Annie devoted herself to raising their three children. Annie returned to the workforce first as a phlebotomist then as a receptionist in a doctor’s office, a position she enjoyed for many years until her retirement.
In retirement, Annie embraced her love of travel from the shores of Peggy’s Cove to the sunsets of Hawaii. She had a keen interest in observing the world around her whether it was an afternoon farm drive, stopping to check the Osprey nests on the way into town, or heading off with the “little house” (the Airstream) to an airshow or to visit family. Annie loved Hawaii, and spent many a Christmas and birthday enjoying the whales, birds, trees, and especially, Kilauea.
Annie will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of nearly 65 years, Harvey; her children, Brad (Kim), Brian, and Beverly Karen; her grandchildren, Katie (Travis), Jackie (Justin), and Allie; and her great-grandchildren, Theo and Marcus.
She was predeceased by her parents, Nick and Serafina Kowalchuk, and by her brothers, Steve and John.
The family will hold a private memorial gathering to honour Annie’s memory.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Annie’s memory may be made to the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice, whose compassionate care and support brought comfort to Annie and her family during her final days.
