DORE, Roy William

Mar 19, 2018

Roy (Knobby) Dore – Retired Major Roy (Knobby) Dore passed away on March 19, 2018 at Granite Ridge Long Term Care Facility.  Knobby leaves behind his beloved wife, Sylvia, his son Anthony (JoAnne) and daughters Sheryl (Bob) and Martine (Heather).  Also remembering him with love are grandchildren Megan (Manny), Aaron (Saman), Casey, Jordan and 3 great-grandchildren, Petyon, Mihyla and Zoey (with one on the way).

Knobby was a former RCAF member of the Canadian Armed Forces and served in the Canadian Coast Guard.  Knobby was a dedicated volunteer over the years, volunteering to raise funds with the Canadian Cancer Society, serving as a Cub and Scout leader and as the Director of the Figure Skating Club in Lahr, Germany.  Knobby believed strongly in helping others and donated over 200 units of blood to the Canadian Blood Services.

Those who knew Knobby knew his wonderful, yet dry sense of humour and his kindness. Knobby was an avid runner who ran his first marathon shortly after his 70th birthday.  He appreciated exercise, the outdoors and had a green thumb, spending many hours in his garden.  Knobby’s express wishes were to have no service, but those who would like to can remember him with a donation to the Alzheimer’ Society or Canadian Cancer Society.  He will be missed, but will be carried with us forever in cherished memories.

Freed from Alzheimer’s, he has gone out for a run….and is just gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.
