Anne Smallian (née Boulianne) passed away with her family and close friend by her side on Monday June 17th 2024 at the age of 80 years, following a difficult battle with Alzheimer’s.
She will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 56 years, Brian; daughter Jocelyne Smallian-Khan and son-in-law Daoud Khan; brother and sister-in-law, Richard (Rick) and Maureen Boulianne; and beloved nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by cherished friends from the Ottawa Catholic School Board where she was a dedicated educator for several decades.
Born in Wales in the midst of World-War Two to a Canadian Armed Forces photographer and a United Kingdom nurse, she grew up in a bilingual family and always wanted to grow up to be a teacher. She enjoyed horse-back riding, dog training, painting, social time with family and friends, reading anything from Chaucer and Shakespeare to mysteries and science-fiction. She was a two-time cancer survivor.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Extendicare Laurier Manor for their consideration and compassion during Anne’s final 16 months of life under their care.
Memorial donations may be made in Anne’s name to The Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County 500-2327 St. Laurent Boulevard, Ottawa, ON K1G 4J8, https://dementiahelp.ca/.
