Eileen Elizabeth Horsley
February 4, 1927- September 25, 2019
Born in Lebret, Saskatchewan, Eileen Elizabeth Horsley (born Olson), was the twin sister of Kathleen (deceased), sister of Frances, Theresa, Lillian (deceased) and William (deceased). Married to Trevor Lorne Horsley (deceased), they were the proud parents of three children: Kathleen “Kate” Daller (deceased), Mark Horsley, and Susan Brison. Eileen was the proud grandmother of Julian, Miguel, Alejandra and Trevor, and great-grandmother of Noah and Senna. After leaving Lebret, SK, Eileen’s life took her to Cassiar, BC, where her husband Trevor worked as a mining engineer, and they continued to raise their three children. They also resided for a time in Toronto, ON, before settling long-term in Vancouver, BC. After Trevor’s passing, Eileen moved to Ottawa, ON to be closer with her family.Eileen and Trevor both had challenging childhoods, as did many in those Depression years. They learned and believed in hard work, honesty and doing the right thing, and were well known for their generosity and kindness to all in times of need. The family wishes to thank the Madonna Care Community for their excellent care of Eileen during her peaceful final days. A memorial will be held at Capital Memorial Gardens, 3700 Prince of Wales Drive, Ottawa on October 11th, 2019 at 3:00 pm.
To Mark, Susan and families we send our prayers and condolences. Although many years have gone by since my mother Lillian Hull(Olson) passed I always found such strong connections to our family through our dearest Auntie Eileen. Albeit our visits were generally short but we so cherished her honest expressions of warmth and humour and also her cute little egg salad sandwiches (with crusts carefully removed).

My deepest condolences Mark, Susan and families. It has been many years since I have seen your mom but I remember her sense of humour well. Both your mom and your dad were very special to my mom, June and my dad, Cliff Horsley. I have had the pleasure of listening to many stories about them. I would truly love the opportunity to connect with you and hear all about you and your families.
Your cousin
Connie Schleppe (Horsley)
Dear Mark, Susan and family,
Our heartfelt condolences on the passing of Auntie Eileen. It has been a very difficult year for your family and we think of you often and hope you find comfort with your loved ones; children and grandchildren. I personally have so many wonderful memories of Eileen but what I really loved about her was her wit and sense of humour. She always had something to say, whether it was advice or anecdotal. I also love how she would roll her eyes at times. She had the best eyeroll going. Also, the time that Mom and I went to visit you guys in Leaside was very special to me as well. Eileen took us to everything. She made sure I had time to visit a girlfriend who had just moved to the area and helped me get there as well. And Susan taught me how to knit on that trip which was also much appreciated. When she left for Ottawa after your Dad passed away it left a big hole in Mom’s life. Love to you all.
Twins are truly interesting siblings. Aunts Kathleen and Eileen always seemed to me to share ‘something’ that singular siblings don’t. The twins in our family happen to be humourous people, as evidenced by Mike Bourret’s comment about calling Aunt Eileen, Auntie Mom. I can just picture that. Mark, Susan, and extended family. I’m sorry for your loss. Both your Mom and Dad were always so good to me when I visited Vancouver and trucked me around to lots of interesting places, including Gramma Olson’s first house. I’m sure your memories of both your parents will provide consolation for all of you.
Susan, mark and families. Our condolences to everyone. As Pat and I would say when we were little gaffers ,Auntie Mom because it was hard to tell your mom and our mom apart. Mike and Lavonne Bourret
Dear Susan, Mark, Julian, Miguel, Ale and Trevor,
My heart goes out to all of you—what a tough year it’s been.
Our mother Frances, Auntie Eileen’s sister, send her love. She and all of you are in our thoughts.
Eileen and I shared many jokes (that seems to be an Olson ‘thing’) and she and Uncle Trev were always lovely to visit.
I’ve shared a few stories of her with Mark and Susan that I hope you’ll hear about. That woman was a FORCE!

Susan, Mark, Julian, Miguel, Alejandra and Trevor, our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Eileen and Trevor were true friends, who supported us tremendously when we migrated to Canada. They were also sweet and caring grandparent figures to our children. For that, and much more, we will always be grateful and they will remain in our hearts. Lots of light and blessings to them both, wherever they are, reunited.
