May 02, 1934 - May 30, 2022
LAVOIE, Raymond Emile – Our beloved father Raymond died peacefully on may 30, 2022 at the age of 88 in Ottawa, the city he always loved and would never leave. Raymond was born May 02 of 1934 in Iroquois Falls, Ontario to Ozelia Morin and Maxime Lavoie of L’Islet-sur-Mer, Quebec. He was the youngest and only male sibling to Therese, Juliette, Georgette and Rita, all now deceased. He was preceded in death by our Mother Adele (Gratton) Lavoie and they raised four children together. He is survived by Michelle, Danielle and Marc, having lost his youngest son Martin in 2017. Being the last in his line to have children, the male line in Canada runs back 12 generations from his children, to his father, Maxime, to his grandfather, Ignace, to his great grandfather, Antoine, and all the way back to René Lavoye, born in March 6 of 1601 in Rouen, Normandie, France and the first to come to Canada. Dad will be remembered for his dogged determination, morale fortitude, strong faith, as well as the designing and hand crafting of wooden planes and race cars for many sick kids at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) in Ottawa.
Dad loved nature and animals. As small boy he spent endless hours in the woods of Northern Ontario building forts with his buddies. He had an affinity with animals and trained wild squirrels to retrieve peanuts from his hands and top of his head, which also taught to his children to do. Raymond spoke lovingly about his childhood dog Petit Noir and his house cats Max and Charlie. His favorite things included, the Last of the Mohicans, Doing It My Way by Frank Sinatra, cars, swimming, running, singing, making handmade furniture for our childhood home and lots of puttering. He was a dedicated public servant for the Canada Revenue Agency until he retired in 1990.
