DORE (Née BANYARD), Sylvia Grace

Mar 30, 2020

Sylvia Dore passed away Monday, March 30th, 2020 at the Queensway-Carleton Hospital, after battling health issues for many years.

Sylvia was born in Gosport, Hants, England and journeyed to Canada in 1956, with her newly-wed husband, and love of her life, Roy (Knobby) Dore, “for a two year posting » – that lasted 65 years.  Widowed in 2018, Sylvia continued to serve as Queen Nan to their family.  She leaves behind, to grieve her loss and celebrate her life: son Anthony  (JoAnne), daughter Sheryl (Bob), daughter Martine (Heather),  four grandchildren, Megan (Manny), Aaron (Saman), Casey and Jordan and her four great-grandchildren, Peyton, Mihyla, Zoey and Wesley.

Over the years Sylvia volunteered in her children’s’ schools, the Canadian Forces Base Library in Lahr, Germany and the Almonte General Hospital.  Above all, Sylvia’s priority in life was her family.  There was nothing she liked better than family get-togethers, especially when accompanied by good food!  She and Knobby created a strong family unit, modelling how family can be our strongest allies and friends.  She was a woman with strong values, opinions and strength of character, which coupled with a wonderful sense of humour, served her well in facing her health adversities over her lifetime.

Sylvia’s express wishes were to have no service, but those who wish to do so can remember her by loving your family and donating to the Alzheimer’s Society or the Ottawa Stray Cat Rescue.

The family would like to express our deep appreciation for the wonderful staff at Granite Ridge Long Term Care and the team at the Queensway-Carleton Hospital, including the doctors and nurses on D4.

Found in her papers in her handwriting was this motto:

Yesterday is History

Tomorrow is a Mystery

Today is a Gift.
