It is with great sadness that I announce the sudden passing of my dear father, Robert William McKinley.

Dad was an extraordinary father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. A successful municipal attorney and land developer, he built a lasting legacy in both Ottawa, Canada, and Florida, where he enjoyed his winters for over 15 years.

With a sharp legal mind and a deep passion for thoughtful development, Dad was a strong advocate for his community. He actively participated in rural township meetings, championing land use plans that respected and enhanced the character of the communities he served. He earned both his Master of Business Administration and his Law Degree from the University of Ottawa — a testament to his dedication to learning and excellence.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dad had a zest for life and a wide array of passions. He was an avid golfer, a lifelong sports enthusiast, and loved to fish and spend quality time with family. His creative spirit showed in countless ways: he had a unique eye for fashion and design, often decorating model homes, crafting jewelry, collecting fine wines, and cooking with flair.

He is predeceased by his mother Dorothy McKinley, his father, Percy McKinley and his brother Bruce McKinley.

He will be remembered by Murielle McKinley with whom he shared many years. His brother Barton McKinley, his daughters Liane McKinley and Alison McKinley, his adopted son Jamie Proulx, his granddaughters Jessica Sleeman and Brianna Sleeman, his grandsons, Ty Baroudi & Cole Baroudi, and his great-grandchildren Levi, Clark, Dallas, and Rory.

As per his family’s wishes, a private ceremony and celebration of life will be held. If you wish to honor Robert’s memory, please consider a donation to your local Dementia Society or Alcoholics Anonymous branch in his name — causes that held meaning for him and his journey.

He will be forever remembered for his brilliance, his bold spirit, his unmatched smile, and his unwavering love for his family.
