Jack was just weeks shy of his 100th birthday when he passed away on August 9th, 2022. Born in Edmonton AB on September 6, 1922 and raised in Vancouver BC, he was the youngest child of William J. Skinner and Minnie Mae Jones.
Following service in the Royal Canadian Navy, Jack attended the University of British Columbia, and had a rewarding career with MacMillan Bloedel – first in Vancouver, then Montreal, and finally in Ottawa.
Predeceased by his three protective older sisters Dorothy, Vivienne and Irene, the first love of his life Joanne (Peers) and precious second love Rea (Finch-Noyes). Jack loved, in no particular order, golf, dancing and his family – son Bill, daughters Wendy (Andre Buet), Jill, Patricia and Suzanne, step-son Anthony Leighton, granddaughter Laura (Arnaud Guerrand), grandson Jacob (Hannah Mitchell) and great-granddaughter Josephine Rose.
Jack was a kind man, quick to lend a hand when needed, friendly and resourceful. He remained positive, always looking forward rather than getting mired in the past. His fellow residents at Hazeldean Gardens may remember his “hi, hi, hi”, offered to everyone he encountered.
Jack will be deeply missed. The family would like to thank the staff at Hazeldean Gardens for their kindness, care and support. A service of remembrance will be held at a later date. Donations in Jack’s name may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
