Nov 05, 1944 - Jan 05, 2022
It is with heavy hearts that friends and neighbours announce Bill Weaver’s passing at the age of 77. Bill had a cardiac episode at his home in Sandy Hill and called the ambulance himself the evening of January 5, 2022.
Bill was from a small town in Saskatchewan and moved to Ottawa with his family as a boy. He served for a few years in the army as a young man and worked as a cleaner for many years for Hallmark Housekeeping Services. He retired in December 2009.
Bill loved when his friends would take him every so often to a lake to go fishing. He had his fishing vest and gear ready in his room ready for the next adventure. He had interests in astonomy and philosophy and was an avid reader. Before the pandemic, he would hang out at the local pub to socialize with locals. Bill had lived at the Osgoode Chambers rooming house since 1978. Since 2020, he was actively involved with many of his neighbours in fighting to keep their homes when their rooming house was taken over by a new landlord. Bill was as tough and patient as they come. He always came out for meetings, his door was always open and he was quick to offer a Blue to those who helped me out.
A public memorial will take place Saturday, May 21 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at the Sandy Hill Community Centre, 250 Somerset St. E. There will be free food and drinks. Members of the public are invited to attend and pay their respects. Donations can also be made to the Osgoode Street Tenants’ Legal Defence Fund: https://www.gofundme.com/f/osgoode-street-tenants-legal-defense-fund
