Sandra Louise Alexander

Dec 27, 1937 - Jul 08, 2026

The family of Sandra Louise Alexander (nee Watt), a longtime resident of Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia, is saddened to announce her peaceful passing on July 8, 2026, in Ottawa, Ontario, at the age of 88, from a recent cancer diagnosis.

“Sandy” as she was lovingly known by her husband, Peter, who predeceased her by

three years, will be deeply missed by her children, Ian (Tracy), Kerry and David and her

grandchildren Sophie, Natasha and Christian. Born in Toronto to the late Robert Watt

and Francis “Bill” Watt (Acker), Sandra was predeceased by her brothers, Barney and

Jeff Watt. She is survived by her brother, Jim Watt and her sisters-in-law, Holly Watt, Sue Watt and Jane Christie.

Sandra’s early years were spent in St. Jean, Quebec, known fondly to her as “St.

John’s,” where she commuted daily to Montreal West High School. She married Peter in

1963 and after starting their family in Montreal, moved to Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia in

  1. Although not originally from Nova Scotia, for the rest of her life, Sandra was a

proud Maritimer and never missed a moment to extol the warmth of Atlantic Canada

especially the South Shore of Nova Scotia where she lived for nearly 35 years.

Sandra lived a life marked by her willingness to volunteer in whatever community she

found herself. Her long-standing volunteer roles included supporting her daughter’s

youth sports, managing the Halifax IWK Children’s Hospital Gift Shop, volunteering with

Lunenburg RCMP Detachment’s Victim Services Program, and serving at St. James

Anglican Church in Mahone Bay.

A talented quilter, Sandra expressed her love for her family through the countless hours

she spent creating beautiful quilts for her children and grandchildren. These treasured

quilts remain a lasting reminder of her love.

Sandra will be remembered for her friendliness, gregarious nature and her love for her family.

The family wishes to thank the personal care workers and nursing staff who provided Sandra with exceptional care and support in her final days.

A Celebration of Life will take place on July 14, 2026, at 1 pm at the Villagia in The Glebe Retirement Community, 480 Metcalfe Street, Ottawa. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
