ROMAN, Barry Michael

Feb 25, 2018

After a brave battle with cancer, our beloved dad, Barry Michael Roman passed away peacefully on February 25th 2018, surrounded by family at the age of 72. He leaves behind his children, Krista (Mark Durand), Kelly (Brett Serjeantson), Kevin (Cheryl Seiden), their mother, Colleen Ablett and 9 wonderful grandchildren: Paige, Quinn, Jacob, Julia, William, Emilee, Aidan, Benjamin and Joshua. Predeceased by his parents Stanley and Rita Roman (Smith) and sister Marcia, he will be fondly remembered by his brother Greg (Nancy), sister Susan, brother-in-law Frank McCann, his nieces Brittany and Lindsay McCann, many cousins and lifelong friend, Michael Whelan. Professionally, Barry maintained positions of esteem with various companies where he successfully achieved numerous honours in sales over his career. Later in life, he attended Carleton University and worked providing support to those with mental health issues. Our Dad was a sports enthusiast with a deep passion for running. He successfully completed 23 marathons along with countless smaller distance events. Highlights include 5 New York City marathons and the Bare Buns fun run! Ultimately, his greatest love was for his family and despite many life challenges, he demonstrated that love in so many ways as much as possible. By God’s grace, he was blessed by an outpouring of love in his last days from friends and family and he will be missed greatly.Β Β In lieu of flowers, donations are gratefully accepted to the Elisabeth Bruyere Hospital in Ottawa, Ontario with special mention to nurses Malayka and Donna on the 5th floor.

The world is a lesser place without this man’s lovely smile and personality. I have so many warm memories of Barry Roman. From stories of how his family and my Dad’s family grew up together in Quebec, from the first time he and my Dad picked Kelly & I up from work – only to realize that after all of their decades apart, they were now reunited with daughters with the same name, working the same job – and each of them in Jeep Cherokees! I recall the time Barry met Kelly and I at the side of the highway to wish us well before our journey across Canada, and I remember the funny story about the nudist running Camp he found himself at once! I remember him being like another father to me for all of the years he was in my life. He will be greatly missed. My heart goes out to all of you – I am so very sorry for your loss. xo

He may be gone but he is not forgotten. He was living with us when he went to Washington to run in the Bare Buns Fun Run. I can remember his big grin when I asked how was it.

He was too young to leave us but he’s at peace now.
I have so many fond memories of Barry in our youth.
