PAPOVE, Nicolai
Compassionate, supportive, humanitarian, comedian, philosopher and loving, our father, grandfather, great grandfather, father-in-law role model, friend and consummate Roughriders fan will be dearly missed. Nic touched our lives and hearts in so many ways and we are better for having had him in our world. He leaves us with great memories of a man whose life was all about being there for others.
Nic was born in Saskatoon on August 01, 1927 and passed away in Ottawa on December 21, 2017. Raised on a farm in Blaine Lake Saskatchewan, Nic went on to study Social Sciences at UBC and ultimately met and married the love of his life Vionne. After graduating university in 1952 Nic pursued a life-long career serving others as part of the provincial and federal public service and was especially proud of being instrumental in bringing social work accreditation to Canadian Universities and Colleges in the 1070’s. This enabled social workers to be certified in Canada rather than out of country. While his career accomplishments are many, Nic considered his family his greatest achievement.
Words cannot articulate how much we will miss his willingness to listen, guidance, sense of humour and acceptance but we know he has been reunited with Vionne. He will be eternally cherished by his two daughters and loved by his family and friends. As per his wishes, we will be having a private family celebration of Nic’s life. We ask all his friends to treasure time with their family this holiday and Christmas season. As you hold dear those precious moments, please raise a glass in memory of Nic.

Dear Pat and Bev,
Please accept our condolences on the passing of your dear father. I was thinking of your dear parents, Nic and Vi, recently as I always do around Christmas. We spent many a happy Christmas Eve or Christmas Day with them and Bev in our early years in Ottawa. We cherish such fond memories of them.
Sincerely,
Jackie and Lucian Sitwell
