LIPSETT, Elizabeth Charlotte

Dec 03, 2019

Elizabeth Charlotte Lipsett (nee Visser)

Died peacefully in the presence of her family on Dec. 3, 2019. She is survived by daughters Sonya and Margot and her beloved grandson Jason José. On Christmas Eve 1929, her early birth surprised her family who were preparing for the holidays on a farm in South Africa. She continued to be unconventional and surprising. She got the travel bug early and hitch-hiked around Europe shortly after WWII and continued to travel to far-flung place throughout her life always eager to observe art and architecture as well as to immerse herself into other cultures. Although she stayed at home with her daughters, she was an artist accomplished in pottery, jewelry, batik, and calligraphy. She was a real force of nature and a role model of strength and fortitude. She loved a good laugh, great stories and she always wanted to help. Even as she descended into Alzheimer’s she was always most gracious and kind and took joy in telling everyone who marvelous they were.

I am so sorry to Sonya to hear of your mom’s passing. I do remember your mom as tremendously gracious, elegant and warm when I was a child but I also found something very intriguing about her spirit. I know she lives on in you although I appreciate what a huge loss this is. Our family’s thoughts are with you.
