Lars Erik Wessman, aged 81, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 12 at Montfort Hospital in Ottawa with his family at his bedside. Erik was the son of the late Par Viktor and E. Louise Wessman of Liverpool, Nova Scotia.
Erik is survived by his wife Joan (Creaser) and sons Lars (Diane) and Harold (Tracy) and granddaughters Laïs and Emma of Ottawa. Erik is also survived by his sisters Karin (Allen) in Liverpool and Maja-Lisa (David Thomson) in Kingston and by numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Erik was a graduate of Dalhousie University in Halifax and studied Engineering Physics. He spent his career with the Department of National Defence in Ottawa.
Over the years Erik spent many happy hours playing tuba with various musical groups and always sought to fill our home with the sound of classical music.
There will be a cremation followed by a private celebration of life later this year.
The family offers special thanks to the kind and helpful staff at Montfort Hospital. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to a charity of your choosing.
Played alongside Erik in the low brass section of the Parkdale Symphony for many years.
A true gentleman. Had some very interesting conversations about his career.
He was very proud of the fact he was still able to fit into his military uniform when we played a Last Night of the Proms concert! Not many of us can claim that after retiring.
Glad to have known him.
