In Loving Memory of Sandra Margaret Taylor

Jul 17, 1959 - May 20, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sandra Margaret Taylor.  Surrounded by the love of her family, Sandra succumbed to her illness and passed away peacefully at Queensway Carleton Hospital in Nepean on May 20th 2026, at the age of 66.  An Ottawa resident for 45 years she was born in Sudbury Ontario and raised in Coniston.  Daughter of Lucy and Thomas Taylor (both predeceased), she leaves behind her long time partner of 25 years, Derek Masters and her beloved pets, Cheetos and Minnie.  Survived by siblings Sharon Taylor, Timmy Taylor (Angel), Susan Taylor Soares (Terry Hatton) and Kristina Taylor (Lou Zarakas), In-laws Carl Master, Joe Masters (predeceased), Sherry Wilson, and Paul Masters. Sandra was a loving partner, sister, aunt and great-aunt to many loving nieces and nephews.  She worked with her hands as a skilled artist and taxidermist on many projects and exhibitions for the Museum of Natural Science and Man for 13  years, until its closure.  Sandra continued to pursue her hobby as an artist and taxidermist in her spare time throughout her lifetime.  Sandra’s memory will continue to live on for many generations through her beautiful artwork and sculptures she left behind and the taxidermy projects that she created.  An avid wildlife lover, one of Sandra’s cherished hobbies was her back yard garden where she enjoyed watching bees, butterflies, and various birds such as blue jays, cardinals and chickadees.  Sandra attended Sir James Whitney Residential School for the Deaf at the young age of 5.  As a deaf person, Sandra’s strong will helped her in overcoming many obstacles in life in order to  survive in a hearing world.  Sandra was passionate about helping endangered wild cats such as cheetahs and lions.  In lieu of flowers, your support in her honor of an animal welfare organization, such as Ottawa Humane Society or specific foster-based rescues like Furry Tales Cat Rescue would be appreciated.  In keeping with her generous spirit, Sandra gave the gift of life through organ and tissue donation.  A closed family memorial will be held in Ottawa on June 22, 2026, when Sandra’s ashes will be released along the shores of the Ottawa River. A public celebration and burial will be held in her hometown of Sudbury, on August 1, 2026, where Sandra will be laid to rest beside her parents, Lucy and Thomas Taylor.
