DAMPHOUSSE, Roger René

Mar 23, 2019

It is with great sorrow and a deep sense of loss that we announce the passing of Roger Damphousse on March 23, 2019 at the Ottawa Hospital General Campus at the age of 75. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Lionel Damphousse and Eva Damphousse (Charlebois) of Vanier, ON. He is deeply mourned by his common-law wife, love and dear friend Lucie Gosset (aka Lauren Hall) and her son Nick (Tracy) Gosset.
Survived by his children, Alain, Sandra, Nathalie Laplante (Stéphane Charlebois); grandpapa (GP) to Keven and Jessica Damphousse, Audrée and Michaël La Salle, great granddaughter Laïla Damphousse.

Already greatly missed by his siblings Helene (Andre Landry), Claude (Monique Raymond), Claire, Pauline (Peter Sinclair) and Aline (Mauro Cuccaro). Uncle Rog was very special to his nieces and nephews : Sylvie and Guylaine Roy, Mélanie, Chantal and Michel Damphousse and Chanel Damphousse as well as great nephews and nieces. Up to the last minute, Roger enjoyed a very successful career for 32 years with Fenex Windows and Doors in Orleans and will forever be remembered by all his colleagues for his wit and gregarious laugh.

Roger had a wide range of interests but his greatest passion was music. In 2007, along with his brother Claude (aka Quincy), they were inducted in the Ottawa Valley Country Music Hall of Fame. Musicians from across the country, north, south, east and west, are in deep pain today thinking of their talented and accomplished friend, Roger Rabbit. His other favorite passtime was riding on his Harley with his buddies to see the world. They know who they are. He would want us to thank the wonderful doctors and the nurses of the 5th floor west wing, Ottawa Hospital General Campus, for their excellent care and Dr. Prisilla Bright, his personal GP.

As per Roger’s wish, there will be no visitation or service. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

Let the Good Times Roll
Laissez les bons temps rouler

Roger through our Aunt Laurie. He was charming, funny, and always great with us kids. Even though Laurie and Roger broke up in the late 80s, he made a point of coming to some MacGregor family functions over the years, and it was always a joy for everyone to see him. From the days at the Golden Rail, Rog became my guitar mentor. When he decided to take a break from traveling with the often-renamed group of musicians/brothers, eventually becoming Tenderfoot, I was asked to step into an impossible spot to fill. Of course I could never replace or even come close to his talents (on and off stage!). He was and will remain my mentor but most of all, I will miss the respect and friendship we had for each other…
Heartfelt condolences to you Lauren and families.

Dear Roger, I will forever miss you my good friend. It was a pure pleasure getting to know you. It was a tue privilege to hear and dance to your music. It was an honour working and volunteering with you at the Moose and with SOS Vanier in our shared communities. It was and still is, a joy to be your friend. Thanks for having my back. You will always remain in my coner with your smile, your laughs and your genuine care for others. You are a very special soul and may god bless you for all you have done for others. Adieu till we meet again. Sincere condolences to Lauren and Pat, your family and so many friends.

So very sad that another great entertainer is gone too soon. I've known Roger since we played at the Golden Rail way back in the 70's. An amazing talent and great person. He will be greatly missed by so many but especially you Lauren and his family. Stay strong and cherish all the wonderful memories you made. He will always be in your heart. Sending hugs

Lucy, Our deepest sympathy to you & the family. So sorry to hear this.

He was and will remain my mentor but most of all, I will miss the respect and friendship we had for each other... Heartfelt condolences to you Lauren and families. Bob Boucher

Serge and Judy Millen

We are so very happy to have known you Roger and Serge will never forget you as he danced so hard with your playing the violin that he couldn't straighten up for 6 wks and I know Lauren remembers that - what a man of great talent and such a wonderful musician. Our hearts go out to your family and to your sweetheart Lauren - who we dearly love. Keep playing your music and your loved ones will hear it.

Roch Lapensee

Met Roger once at the Moose Lodge in Vanier. Lauren which i've known for many years had invited me to go over and do a couple songs. Sincere condolences to his family and friends. R.I.P. Roger and keep playing and singing up there. Rocky.Lapensée
