Jan 20, 1949 - Jan 31, 2023
It is with great sorrow and fond remembrance that we announce the passing of Brent William Freeman on January 31, 2023 at Bruyere St. Vincent Hospital. Born in Ottawa on January 20, 1949, he was the son of the late William Freeman and late Beatrice (Gates) Freeman. Brent had an amazing spirit, and blessed all those around him with his generosity, self-lessness and kind-heartedness, placing the needs of others before his own. A true farmer at heart, he loved the natural world around him, and balanced a strong work ethic with a quick wit and playful sense of humour. His words and values carried a strength that guided his family’s approach to life.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he will be greatly missed and forever remembered by his loving wife, Diane; his sister Linda (late David); his children, Brett, Kristen (Shaun), Lindsey (Peter) and Stacey (Asim); and his grandson, Maverick. He will also be fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at St. Helen’s Anglican Church, 1234 Prestone Drive, on February 25th, 2023 at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada; Diabetes Canada; the Ottawa Heart Institute; Parkinson Canada; the Canadian Cancer Society or St. Vincent Bruyère Hospital.
“Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand”
I was in the Physics Technology Program at Algonquin College on Lees Ave. in 1968 – 1971 with Brent. We were a small class but a close group of 24-26 students. We worked hard and played hard to reduce the stress from over 30-hours a week in lectures and labs, plus countless hours doing assignments. I have great memories of those years in the off hours on sleigh rides, or just enjoying a beer together, including a weekend at the Freeman cottage when we finished college. I was saddened to read of Brent’s passing. My condolences to the Freeman family on your loss.
Just came back from Brent`s celebration of life service. The testimonies from his Daughters were very touching. I worked with Brent at IBM from 1997 until 2005, very special years for me. He was witty, funny, always there to help everyone. He worked a lot and when I say a lot I mean a lot.
My deepest sympathy to the whole family.
So sorry for your loss Diane. Sincere condolences to you and your children, and your extended family. With much love.
I worked with Brent at IBM for many years . There is not more to say than what is said in the Obituary. It was just a lot of fun working with Brent. During his career he received many awards for his outstanding work. He will be dearly missed.
Our sincere sympathy to Lindsey, Peter and all the family. Dot, Heather and Jackie, St. John’s NL.
My sincere condolences to Diane, cousin Linda and the Freeman family. I have many fond memories of times with the Freeman family as a child and young adult. The words fun and laughter come to mind. I especially remember a Gates family reunion at the Freeman cottages. Cousin Brent came to welcome us as we arrived and within minutes a water fight broke out. You just never knew what fun was going to happen. Brent’s kind and gentle side was also evident in his life. I remember how touched my dad, Brents uncle Eric, was when Brent came to visit him a few days before he passed away. May God’s peace and comfort sustain you as you adjust to life without Brent.
My deepest sympathy to you and your family.
