BIGRAS, ROBERTA

Sep 21, 1930 - Oct 30, 2023

A proud Newfoundlander, faith filled, courageous, strong, funny, loving and kind are a few ways to capture who Roberta was.

Roberta was born on September 21, 1930. She was the youngest of 7 children born to Robert and Clara Taylor.  At the age of 19 she came to Ontario and lived with her sister and her family. She then met the love of her life and raised her family.

You only had to spend a few minutes with Roberta to hear her speak about her heritage, her family and granddaughters, or what event was happening that week at Ottawa West Community Support.

Mom had amazing neighbors and friends that cared for her deeply.

She will be deeply missed. She is predeceased by her parents Robert and Clara, her brothers William (Marion), Albert (Betty), George (Eslie), her sisters Emmaline (Jack), Dorothy (Fred) , her brother in law Jim and her husband Morris.

Roberta leaves behind her daughter Jackie Monforton (Alan), and her granddaughters Grace and Samantha Monforton, her sister Jean Garrity, many nephews and nieces, great, great -great nephews and nieces and many friends. To her family she was fondly known as Bobs to her siblings and Aunt Bobs to her many nephews and nieces.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday November 8,2023 at Ottawa Reformed Presbyterian Church, 466 Woodland Ave, Ottawa ON at 1130 am with light refreshments to follow.

Since the passing of her husband Morris, Roberta loved the community she was part of in attending Ottawa West Community Support where she had lots of fun and formed many meaningful relationships.

In lieu of flowers a donation can be made in her memory to Ottawa West Community Support

Jackie and family, our deepest sympathies in the loss of your mother. While I never met her, just from reading her obituary and hearing stories about her, it sounds like she was one firecracker of a lady and I’m sorry that I never had the chance to meet her. Lots of hugs being sent your way.

My wife Sherry and I we wish to offer our deepest sympathy. We didn’t know Roberto very well but as a member of the housing co-op for 36 years I could see that Roberta would contribute to the co-op as much as she could. She was very kind person.

My condolences to Jackie, Alan And family. I will always hold dear a special day spent with Aunt Bobs at our family reunion in Millertown in 2000, and spending time with her again in Millertown in 2022. Such a special lady.

I had the pleasure of meeting Aunt Bobs, Jackie and Alan in 2022 in Millertown, NL during the Millertown homecoming. Jim got to reconnect with them after a long while. Seeing her large smile and big hug for Jim when she saw him, was truly heart touching. We kept in touch afterwards through Facebook. I will truly miss her daily greetings. Rest in Peace Aunt Bobs.

Jackie & Family, I am so saddened to hear of your Moms’ passing. I have such fond memories of both her and your Dad. There were many, but one of great kindness stands out. It was back in the 80’s and we had a Christmas power outage. Your folks had a trailer at the time. When I called to check in on them and they found out I was supposed to host our family dinner your Dad hauls the trailer to my driveway, puts on the propane and in goes the turkey. Murphy’s Law, we no sooner got it in and the power came back on. It’s the thought that counts and I will always feel blessed to have known them. RIP Roberta

We were lucky enough to live next to you for the past few years. You were so generous and kind. I always appreciated getting a call from you to help you out and be your tech guru, opening jars for you, and helping you keep your yard and garden clean and happy. You were the heart of our little Private street and are missed dearly. Thank you for sharing beautiful stories of Newfoundland –I’m so glad you took that big road trip! I’ll never forget your huge smile as you left on that trip, and the whole of Hendricus out in the driveway waving goodbye! We will miss you. Rest in peace.
