Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 19th, 2018 at the age of 91 at the Ottawa Civic Hospital. Predeceased by his wife Ernistien (nee Pringle) and his daughter Sherry “Linda” Joy. Deeply missed by his grandson Stuart Joy (Sherry) and great-granddaughter Logan. Predeceased by his parents William and Claire Belson and by his two brother’s William and Murray. Stuart enjoyed spending his retirement years volunteering at the Ottawa Heart Institute where he was very passionate and an active member for nearly 23 years. He will be dearly missed by his friends at Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church in Kanata, which he was also extremely proud to be a part of and held a special place in his heart. Stuart was extremely proud of his 32 years of employment with the Federal Government as well as a proud veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces. As per Stuart’s wishes cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, February 2nd, 2019 at 2pm at Trinity Presbyterian Church (1817 Richardson Side Road, Kanata, ON). In Memory of Stuart donations to the Ottawa Heart Institute would be greatly appreciated.
This was very sad news, Stuart was a wonderful, proud man and a gentleman. It was my pleasure to have known and ‘worked’ with both Stuart and his daughter Sherry. Over the years Stuart shared with me many wonderful stories both of his past, and of ‘young’ Stuart, Sherry and Logan. You made him very proud Stuart & Sherry.
He is missed. My sincere condolences.
Stuart was a wonderful kind man, he was so appreciated at the Heart Institute! My condolences to his family, may you cherish and embrace all the good memories !
Stuart, I am so grateful that I had a chance to visit with your grandfather twice last year – it was such a joy to reconnect. As you know, your grandparents and your mom were very influential people in my life and I loved them dearly. Stuart spoke with such pride about you and Sherry and Logan when I last visited and we enjoyed a wonderful trip down memory lane looking at old bell choir pictures. I will miss him.
Stuart & Sherry,
Uncle Stuart was a very special person, and I was very fond of him. When I was young, he lived in the Maritimes while I was still in Montreal. Then I went north to the Arctic and am now out west, so we didn’t have much chance to get together in person. We would talk every few months on the phone, and I would sometimes get to see him when I visited my Mom and Dad, his brother Gordon, whenever I was in Toronto.
You will miss him tremendously, and it will be very difficult for you for quite a while. You are my thoughts.
Irene (Your 1st cousin once removed)
I’am so sorry to hear that Mr. Belson passed away. I was his secretary for many years. He played the organ at my wedding. We remained friends – I called him every other week – and we would chat for a hour. I have been trying to call him – and now I know why he didn’t answer. You were very special to him. I feel like I know you and Sherry (from our conversations).

Stuart, you know how much we (Trinity Presbyterian Church) loved your Grandfather and we will miss him terribly. He was part of my elder district and Susan & I were always so thankful for his participation in our little luncheons. He was a great supporter of all of the church music programs, but we are most grateful for his dedication to starting and building our Bells program. He also seemed to have a soft spot for our Vacation Bible School as he consistently found ways to support it (& me as VBS director) whether it be an encouraging word, an expression of prayer, scholarship for one or more children’s registration. If there is anything we can do for you during this time of grieving, please reach out to us.
Stuart, no words can truly express our sorrow for the loss of your much loved grandfather. Ian has shared fond memories of him. We enjoyed his visits to our old church when he conducted our handbell choir. Know you are in our thoughts and prayers.
