In Loving Memory of Jason Micocci

Mar 30, 1986 - Nov 15, 2025

Peacefully on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at home in Ottawa, in his 40th year. Adored soulmate of Daryl Ray, and cat daddy to Pepito, Jason loved the outdoors, learning languages, cooking and baking, and was passionate about aviation. From humble beginnings in Gaspé, Québec, Jason earned two degrees in science and spent his early career in forestry and biology. He pursued pilot training in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, before joining the Government of Canada where he worked in Indigenous forestry initiates before becoming a Policy Analyst in aviation safety and security, a role he found deeply fulfilling.

Jason loved learning languages as a gateway to new cultures and traditions; aside from his native French and English, he was self-taught in German and Italian. He adored the written works of Marcel Proust and curated an impressive collection of his and other Fin-de-siècle works, those that evoked a sense of love and longing, elegance and identity. In 2023, Jason’s dreams came true when he visited Austria and climbed the Alps, and felt his most authentic self traversing Vienna, Salzburg, Innsbruck and Graz. At home, his library and record collection was vast, from the yé-yé vinyls of the 60s to Strauss and songs of the Alps, Jason adored music and literature that spoke to the soul. His favorite movie, Amélie, encapsulates much of what was true to Jason, that life is a treasure hunt you don’t know you’ve entered and love is the map.

J’ai côtoyé Jason quelques temps alors qu’il travaillait à Services aux Autochtones Canada. Il dégageait une belle énergie positive et c’était toujours un plaisir de lui parler. Mes plus sincères sympathies à ses proches.

Jason was a cheerful and supportive person. Although we were only briefly acquainted, he provided me with guidance and knowledge – despite the tough challenges he was facing then. As colleagues in the same branch at work, it’s sad to lose someone who was adored and looked up to. My brief encounters with Jason will remain with me for a very long time, and I hope his loved ones, and everyone who knew him, take pride and courage from his life.

    Humbly,
    Ritesh

I did not know Jason well, although I had some contact with him as a colleague at TCCA. My recollection of him is as a professional, competent, positive, motivated, good to deal with.

To his colleagues and loved ones, I hope that you keep him in your heart and your memories and can find comfort in the love and support of others. My deepest condolences.

    Chuck Lanning, TCCA.

So sad to hear of Jason’s passing. He always struck me as an impressive and immensely talented person whose passion for aviation was self-evident. Truly a huge loss for those who called Jason part of their families whether personal or professional. My most sincere condolences to Daryl and to all who are affected by this most untimely loss.
