In Loving Memory of Devin Blaney

Feb 03, 1975 - Jul 11, 2026

Devin Reed Blaney, 51, passed away on July 11, 2026, at his home in Ottawa, Ontario, surrounded by
his family, after a lengthy and courageous battle with colon cancer.

A celebration of Devin’s life will be announced at a later date.

Born on February 3, 1975, in Edmonton, Alberta, Devin spent most of his childhood in Ottawa before
moving to British Columbia as a teenager, where he spent most of his adult years. He attended
culinary school in Vancouver and went on to enjoy a long and accomplished career as a professional
chef. He was praised by many for his abilities, kindness, and dedication to the craft, and helped
teach newer chefs along the way. He recently decided to leave the busy kitchen life behind to
pursue a more peaceful life joining Pacific Rim College in Victoria, British Columbia, where he was
studying Holistic Nutrition.

Devin loved nature, he enjoyed hiking, identifying plants and mushrooms along the way, often
cataloging the species he would discover, and always finding beauty in his surroundings. He was a
talented photographer, artist, and eloquent writer and enjoyed sharing his journeys with his many
friends and family online. Devin loved to travel and explore new cultures, foods, and experiences.
Devin had a deep appreciation for life and worked hard to be a positive, spiritual, generous person
despite not having an easy life. Even through cancer, which caused him much suffering, he
remained deeply spiritual, generous, and committed to finding beauty and gratitude wherever he
could. His quiet strength and unwavering kindness touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Devin was predeceased by his father, Greg Blaney. He is lovingly remembered by his mother,
Meredith Blaney; his siblings, Tesia Blaney, Leela Blaney (Michael Duehmig), and Hallis Blaney
(Erica-May Chan); his aunts, LeslieAnn Manley (Victor Vermette) and Anne Blaney (David Barnes);
his niece, Shayla Braine; and his nephews, Owen Braine and Franklin Blaney.

Devin will be remembered for his gentle heart, generous spirit, deep love for his family and friends,
unwavering resilience, sharp wit, strong opinions, infectious laugh, and the warmth of his smile. His
memory will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him, and he will be deeply missed every
day.

Our family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Ontario Health at Home team and to Dr.
Douglas of Community Palliative Medicine Associates for the exceptional compassion, dignity, and
care they provided Devin during his final days. Their kindness brought comfort not only to Devin,
but to all of us who loved him.
