• In Loving Memory of Peter Belfry

Peter Greig Belfry, born on March 28, 1950 in Grasshill, Ontario was a kind and gentle man. Quietly and peacefully he faded from this world on August 8, 2026 at the age of 76. He was surrounded by the family he loved beyond measure.

Peter was tall in stature and big of heart and he filled any room with his joyful presence. His curiosity was boundless. Together with his wife, Lisa, Peter travelled the world, living in Arizona, Hong Kong, and Switzerland. Peter and Lisa chose to settle in Almonte, Ontario after twenty years abroad to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren.

Peter began his career as a sales representative, progressed to own several businesses, and ultimately found his calling as a teacher of English as a Second Language, which he continued to enjoy to the end of his life. Peter loved connecting with students from all corners of the world to share his love of the English language, literature, music, and philosophy. He constantly strove to understand other customs and cultures. Peter was a very easy man to talk to with an engaging personality.

Peter spent many happy hours riding his motorcycle, working in the garden, and on home improvements. He loved travelling and was fortunate to visit many countries over the years. Peter had a very eclectic taste in music from folk to rock and roll to classical. He loved good food and good friends but his ultimate joy was in his family. A deeply loving husband, father, and grandfather he loved nothing more than family gatherings, building memories and traditions that will live on in our hearts.

His warm smile and twinkling eyes will be sorely missed by his beloved wife of 40 years, Lisa, his four daughters, Amie (nee Chan, Gordon Mitchell), Andrea Chan (Dean Tremblay), Leslie Belfry (Emmanuel Bigras), and Allison Belfry (Sebastian Bares-Costa), as well as his grandchildren, Jakob and Hannah Mitchell, Mia Lazure, and Lily and Violet Bigras. His sister Susan and her husband Pieter Natte also mourn his passing. His niece, Cassia Hayes is also saddened by the loss of the man she regarded as a father figure.
