In Loving Memory of Kelly-Anne Baines

Nov 04, 1962 - Sep 03, 2026

Kelly-Anne Baines passed away, surrounded by her loving family, on Sept. 3, 2026.
Diagnosed with glioblastoma more than 20 months ago, Kelly-Anne was a warrior from Day 1, beating the odds and crossing many items off the bucket list she created soon after brain surgery early in January of 2025. She refused to let her diagnosis define her, instead choosing to live – and to live fully – for as long as she could.
Kelly-Anne was a ray of brilliant sunshine; a ball of energy who accomplished so much in her more than 63 years.
Kelly-Anne and her husband Tim celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary in early August. Perhaps their greatest accomplishment was raising four amazing boys.
She will be deeply missed by Tim; sons Brent (Kassandra), Jarryd (Jenny), Mitchell (Amber) and Riley; and her beloved grandsons, Carter and Rowen.
For Kelly-Anne, family was always first; it was a value passed down from her parents. She will be dearly missed by her father Bruce, her brother Trevor (Erika), her sisters Karen (Bob) and Tara (Dwayne) and her many nieces and nephews. Her father and her mother, Mabel (nee Cadieux), who passed away in 2019,  were tremendous influences in shaping Kelly-Anne into the wonderful, caring person she was.
A nurse in the Wellness Beyond Cancer program at The Ottawa Hospital, Kelly-Anne gave 37 years of dedicated service to the hospital. She went above and beyond to help her patients, bringing the same warmth and compassion to her work that she brought to everything else in her life.
With her wonderful, glowing personality, Kelly-Anne had a wide circle of friends. Those friendships remained important to her right to the end.
With an amazing smile, Kelly-Anne lived with enormous energy, love and determination. She made a difference to her family, her friends, her patients and countless others. Her energy,  warmth and remarkable ability to always be there for the people she loved will be deeply missed.
The care Kelly-Anne received at Ottawa Hospital was exceptional. She felt loved and supported by doctors, nurses and everything in between. Special thanks to Dr. Nicholas, Dr. Fitzgibbon and Dr. Chang.
Kelly-Anne did not want a traditional funeral service. Instead, family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life on Wednesday, Sept. 9, at the Infinity Convention Centre, 2901 Gibford Dr., beginning at 6:30 p.m. Please dress casual (her favourite colour was red).
For those wishing to make a donation, Kelly-Anne would like the money to go to the Psychosocial Oncology program at the Cancer Centre. To donate, go to www.ohfoundation.ca/donate. Put a checkmark on “Use My Gift to Where it is More Needed.” In the “What inspired you to give” field, you can include the cost centre (OHCC999971070 – F62010000) and indicate that it is intended for The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre Psychosocial Oncology Program’s Patient Emergency Needs Fund.

To Tim, Brent, Jarryd, Mitchell, and Riley,

My sincere condolences go out to you and all the extended family. Kelly-Anne was such an amazing person and I was blessed to have met such an incredible woman. Growing up around the Martin family for years, it was evident just how much Kelly-Anne was cherished. Her compassion for others choosing a vocation as a nurse was inspiring and her love of family was unparalleled. Know that the whole Baines family as well as the extended families all continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

    Dear Tim and family,
I wanted to express my condolences and sympathies re Kelly-Anne’s untimely passing. I met Kelly-Anne in the early 2000s when my late mother was undergoing cancer treatment. Kelly-Anne’s caring, warmth, engagement, initiative and of course medical treatment knowledge greatly eased my mother’s cancer journey. Kelly-Anne was truly remarkable and made the lives and journeys of so many cancer patients and their families so much easier.

Dear Tim and family, my heart goes out to all of you. I have so many fond memories of Kelly Anne and the boys when they were young. We met at Canterbury playgroup and continued our friendship until l left Ottawa for toronto many years ago. Every year I would get a Christmas letter filled with all the up and downs of the past year. I would laugh and cry .. she always told it like it was, I will miss those letters dearly. Kelly Anne was one of a kind … simply the best! 💕

To Tim and family. I didn’t have the honour of knowing Kelly-Anne but I was blessed to have shared the road with Tim who was a solid, genuine, fun-loving and decent person and I can only imagine that Kelly-Anne complemented him in all these aspects and that the loss of someone so special is incomprehensible and wholly unfair. My thoughts are with you and your family Tim. I pray that you find solace and comfort in one another’s company at this incredibly challenging time.
    Sincerely,
    Jim

KAB – Taking a moment to celebrate a true original. A fierce friend, protective parent/grandparent, loving daughter and devoted wife. Don’t get me wrong; KAB always shared her thoughts and opinions; whether you wanted to hear them or not (LOL) but always in the spirit of an advocate for all that were fortunate to know her. Simply a shining example of a human being; inspiring, genuine and beautiful. Her Mom (also gone too soon – miss you Mae 💗) and my Mum shared a friendship since we were babies in Montreal. Life happens, and despite mostly living our lives in different cities, there was a short period when we both lived in Ottawa and enjoyed visiting while our babies played together. Catching up on those occasional texts, calls and visits were always a joy, meaningful and will be greatly missed.💞KAB, you fought hard and as always; on your terms; nearly doubling all expectations since being diagnosed 20 months ago with that glioblastoma. You are and will forever be thought of and loved by those closest to you – thanks for truly making a difference and being you.
    Love ya 💞
