Devin Reed Blaney, 51, passed away on July 11, 2026, at his home in Ottawa, Ontario, surrounded by
\nhis family, after a lengthy and courageous battle with colon cancer.<\/p>\n
A celebration of Devin\u2019s life will be announced at a later date.<\/p>\n
Born on February 3, 1975, in Edmonton, Alberta, Devin spent most of his childhood in Ottawa before
\nmoving to British Columbia as a teenager, where he spent most of his adult years. He attended
\nculinary school in Vancouver and went on to enjoy a long and accomplished career as a professional
\nchef. He was praised by many for his abilities, kindness, and dedication to the craft, and helped
\nteach newer chefs along the way. He recently decided to leave the busy kitchen life behind to
\npursue a more peaceful life joining Pacific Rim College in Victoria, British Columbia, where he was
\nstudying Holistic Nutrition.<\/p>\n
Devin loved nature, he enjoyed hiking, identifying plants and mushrooms along the way, often
\ncataloging the species he would discover, and always finding beauty in his surroundings. He was a
\ntalented photographer, artist, and eloquent writer and enjoyed sharing his journeys with his many
\nfriends and family online. Devin loved to travel and explore new cultures, foods, and experiences.
\nDevin had a deep appreciation for life and worked hard to be a positive, spiritual, generous person
\ndespite not having an easy life. Even through cancer, which caused him much suffering, he
\nremained deeply spiritual, generous, and committed to finding beauty and gratitude wherever he
\ncould. His quiet strength and unwavering kindness touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.<\/p>\n
Devin was predeceased by his father, Greg Blaney. He is lovingly remembered by his mother,
\nMeredith Blaney; his siblings, Tesia Blaney, Leela Blaney (Michael Duehmig), and Hallis Blaney
\n(Erica-May Chan); his aunts, LeslieAnn Manley (Victor Vermette) and Anne Blaney (David Barnes);
\nhis niece, Shayla Braine; and his nephews, Owen Braine and Franklin Blaney.<\/p>\n
Devin will be remembered for his gentle heart, generous spirit, deep love for his family and friends,
\nunwavering resilience, sharp wit, strong opinions, infectious laugh, and the warmth of his smile. His
\nmemory will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him, and he will be deeply missed every
\nday.<\/p>\n
Our family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Ontario Health at Home team and to Dr.
\nDouglas of Community Palliative Medicine Associates for the exceptional compassion, dignity, and
\ncare they provided Devin during his final days. Their kindness brought comfort not only to Devin,
