C\u2019est avec une immense tristesse que nous annon\u00e7ons le d\u00e9c\u00e8s de notre papa bien-aim\u00e9, Paul Coderre, survenu le 2 janvier 2025. Papa s\u2019est \u00e9teint paisiblement, entour\u00e9 de ses enfants, petits-enfants et son aide-soignante, dans un dernier instant de tendresse et d\u2019amour partag\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Homme d\u2019exception, Papa fut un mari, un p\u00e8re et un grand-p\u00e8re extraordinaire.<\/p>\n

Papa rejoint maintenant l\u2019amour de sa vie, notre ch\u00e8re m\u00e8re Lise de Charny (Qu\u00e9bec), son \u00e9pouse bien-aim\u00e9e, avec qui il partagea 62 ann\u00e9es de complicit\u00e9 et de bonheur, jusqu\u2019\u00e0 son d\u00e9c\u00e8s en 2019.<\/p>\n

Papa laisse dans le deuil : nous, ses enfants Michel (Alison), Richard (Aila), Caroline (Douglas) et Sylvain (Heidi); ses onze petits-enfants Isabel (Matt), Annabelle et B\u00e9atrice; Mika et Nicholas; Daniel (Hayley), Justin et Charles; Paul, Marcus et Gabriela; ses arri\u00e8re-petits-fils Frederick, Benjamin et Hugo; ses s\u0153urs Denise et Andr\u00e9e; ses belles-s\u0153urs Jovette et Monique; son beau-fr\u00e8re Daniel; ainsi qu\u2019une grande famille de neveux, ni\u00e8ces, amis et admirateurs qui l\u2019ont profond\u00e9ment aim\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Un parcours exceptionnel<\/p>\n

D\u00e8s ses d\u00e9buts, Papa s\u2019illustra par son talent et son \u00e9thique irr\u00e9prochable. Avocat accompli, il acc\u00e9da rapidement au titre prestigieux de conseiller de la Reine (c.r.). Papa amor\u00e7a sa carri\u00e8re en pratique priv\u00e9e \u00e0 Chicoutimi, devant les tribunaux, o\u00f9 il se m\u00e9rita une notori\u00e9t\u00e9. Papa fut alors recrut\u00e9 par le minist\u00e8re de la Justice \u00e0 Ottawa, o\u00f9 il plaida avec brio devant les Cours f\u00e9d\u00e9rales et la Cour supr\u00eame du Canada et dirigea la Section de droit civil (Qu\u00e9bec). Une salle de conf\u00e9rence dans cette section fut nomm\u00e9e en honneur de Papa et son sous-ministre associ\u00e9 Paul Ollivier.<\/p>\n

Papa a grandi dans la C\u00f4te-de-Sable, \u00e0 Ottawa. Sa r\u00e9silience et son \u00e9thique de travail se sont forg\u00e9es d\u00e8s ses premi\u00e8res ann\u00e9es. Adolescent, Papa occupa divers emplois pour aider financi\u00e8rement sa demi-s\u0153ur Pauline, qui l’a \u00e9lev\u00e9 ainsi que ses quatre fr\u00e8res et s\u0153urs devenus orphelins en bas \u00e2ge. Notamment, papa fut d\u00e9pos\u00e9 par avion de brousse dans le Grand Nord canadien pour des travaux d\u2019arpentage forestier, tout en travaillant comme cuisinier de camp. Ne fuyant aucun d\u00e9fi, il accepta m\u00eame le poste d\u2019agent de recouvrement d\u2019automobiles d\u2019acheteurs d\u00e9faillants. Il fut aussi officier du Corps blind\u00e9 royal canadien.<\/p>\n

Un homme aux multiples talents<\/p>\n

Papa excellait dans divers sports, notamment le baseball, ski alpin, hockey, football, et le tennis et badminton o\u00f9 il se hissa au rang de champion. Papa ma\u00eetrisait \u00e9galement l\u2019art du billard, impressionnant tous ceux qui partageaient une table avec lui. Il effectuait aussi sans effort des sauts p\u00e9rilleux, parfois par-dessus des barri\u00e8res de route. Amoureux de la nature, il trouva son havre de paix au Lac Bernard, o\u00f9 il savourait les moments en famille et entre amis. Humble et chaleureux, Papa savait \u00e9tablir des liens sinc\u00e8res avec des gens de tous horizons, sans distinction.<\/p>\n

Un h\u00e9ritage imp\u00e9rissable<\/p>\n

Papa reste grav\u00e9 dans nos c\u0153urs pour son d\u00e9vouement envers sa famille, sa d\u00e9termination, sa passion vibrante pour la musique, son humour unique et ses expressions color\u00e9es qui \u00e9gayaient les rassemblements. Charismatique et joyeux, Papa illuminait chaque f\u00eate, chaque r\u00e9union. Il est une l\u00e9gende pour ses petits-enfants qui l’adoraient.<\/p>\n

Nos remerciements<\/p>\n

Nous offrons notre profonde gratitude \u00e0 Terri Hamway, qui fut bien plus qu\u2019une aide-soignante pour Papa durant les cinq derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es. Par sa compassion et son d\u00e9vouement, elle a enrichi ses derniers jours avec du confort et de la s\u00e9r\u00e9nit\u00e9. Nous remercions \u00e9galement le personnel du Centre d\u2019Accueil Champlain pour les excellents soins prodigu\u00e9s et leur soutien constant, particuli\u00e8rement durant la phase des soins palliatifs.<\/p>\n

Les fun\u00e9railles auront lieu le samedi 8 f\u00e9vrier 2025, \u00e0 13h, \u00e0 la Paroisse Sainte-Marie, situ\u00e9e au 4831 chemin Innes, Orl\u00e9ans. Une r\u00e9ception suivra, offrant \u00e0 la famille et aux amis l’occasion de partager souvenirs et r\u00e9confort en l’honneur de Papa, cet homme qui nous a tant donn\u00e9.<\/p>\n

December 5, 1929 to January 2, 2025<\/p>\n

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Paul Coderre, on January 2, 2025. Surrounded by his children, grandchildren and caregiver, Papa passed away peacefully in a final embrace of love and tenderness.<\/p>\n

A man of exceptional character, Papa was an extraordinary husband, father, and grandfather.<\/p>\n

Papa now joins the love of his life, our dear mother Lise from Charny, Qu\u00e9bec, his cherished wife of 62 years, who passed away in 2019. Together, they shared a bond of unwavering devotion and joy.<\/p>\n

Papa leaves behind a grieving family: his children Michel (Alison), Richard (Aila), Caroline (Douglas) and Sylvain (Heidi); his eleven grandchildren Isabel (Matt), Annabelle and B\u00e9atrice; Mika and Nicholas; Daniel (Hayley), Justin and Charles; Paul, Marcus and Gabriela; his great-grandsons Frederick, Benjamin and Hugo; his sisters Denise and Andr\u00e9e; his sisters-in-law Jovette and Monique; his brother-in-law Daniel; and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, friends, and admirers who held him in high regard.<\/p>\n

A Journey of Excellence<\/p>\n

Papa\u2019s life was marked by brilliance and integrity. As a lawyer, he quickly rose to prominence, earning the distinguished title of Queen\u2019s Counsel (QC). His legal career began in private practice in Chicoutimi, where his courtroom skills earned him widespread respect. He was then recruited by the Department of Justice in Ottawa, where he argued cases before the Federal Courts and the Supreme Court of Canada, and served as the Director of the Civil Law Section (Quebec). A boardroom in this section was named in honour of Papa and Paul Ollivier, his Associate Deputy Minister.<\/p>\n

Papa grew up in Sandy Hill, Ottawa. His resilience, work ethic and determination were forged in his early years. As a teenager, Papa held various jobs to financially assist his half-sister Pauline, who raised him and his four siblings who were orphaned at a young age. His jobs included being dropped off by bush plane into Canada\u2019s Far North for forestry surveying, while working as a camp cook. Not one to shy away from challenges, he even accepted a job repossessing cars from defaulting purchasers. Papa also served in the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps Reserve.<\/p>\n

A Man of Many Talents<\/p>\n

Papa excelled in various sports, including baseball, downhill skiing, hockey, football, and tennis and badminton where he achieved championship titles. A master of billiards, he amazed everyone who played with him. He also effortlessly performed somersaults, sometimes over road barriers. Nature was his sanctuary, and Lac Bernard his haven. There, he relished time spent with family and friends. Through Papa\u2019s warmth and humility, Papa forged connections with people from all walks of life, without distinction.<\/p>\n

An Enduring Legacy<\/p>\n

Papa\u2019s legacy is forever in our hearts through his devotion to family, his passion for music, his playful sense of humour, and his funny sayings that brightened every gathering. With his big personality and charisma, Papa was the life of the party. Papa was, and remains, a legend to his grandchildren who adored him.<\/p>\n

Our Gratitude<\/p>\n

Our heartfelt thanks to Terri Hamway, Papa\u2019s incredible caregiver for the past five years, whose dedication and compassion were a gift to him and to all of us. Terri enriched Papa\u2019s last days with comfort and serenity. Thank you to the staff at the Centre d\u2019Accueil Champlain for their great care and support, especially during the palliative stage.<\/p>\n

A funeral mass will take place on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 1:00 PM, at Paroisse Sainte-Marie, 4831 Innes Road, Orl\u00e9ans. A reception will follow, offering family and friends the opportunity to share memories and solace in honour of Papa, a man who gave us so much.<\/p>\n
