{"id":12760,"date":"2018-05-23T12:37:06","date_gmt":"2018-05-23T12:37:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/firstmemoridev.wpengine.com\/obituaries\/skupek-franc\/"},"modified":"2022-08-20T16:46:31","modified_gmt":"2022-08-20T16:46:31","slug":"skupek-franc","status":"publish","type":"orbituaries","link":"https:\/\/firstmemorialfairview.com\/fr\/obituaries\/skupek-franc\/","title":{"rendered":"SKUPEK, Franc"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Franc Skupek, 84, Ottawa ON, passed away on Wednesday May 23, 2018, in the care of the Ottawa General Hospital.\u00a0 Franc was born January 24, 1934 in Podnanos, Slovenia to Jozef and Emilija Skupek.\u00a0\u00a0Leaving home at the young age of 14, he pursued his education in auto mechanics and completed his required military service.<\/p>\n<p>At the age of 22, he attempted to leave the country with two friends. \u00a0Unfortunately, they were stopped at the border and returned to their families. \u00a0Franc was determined \u00a0and succeed on his second attempt by crossed the barb wired fences at Nova Gorica\u00a0into Italy. From there\u00a0he traveled to Paris France where he would live for 4 years.<\/p>\n<p>June 1960 he arrived in Montreal Quebec, later moved to Toronto Ontario and\u00a0finally settled in Ottawa on December\u00a08th, 1960.<\/p>\n<p>While attending evening English classes he met\u00a0a little\u00a0Spanish firecracker. \u00a0Courtship required him to entertain and travel with a VW Beetle full of Spanish women. On December 16, 1961 he married the love of his life, Nieves Diaz.<\/p>\n<p>Franc is survived by his loving wife Nieves Skupek; his children, Frank Skupek (Donna Conolly); Beatriz Skupek (Peter Harlick); and Nevenka Missaghian (Navid Missaghian).<\/p>\n<p>The biggest\u00a0pride of his life, his beautiful grandchildren: Alexandra Skupek (Joshua Torres), Sebastien Skupek, Gabriel Skupek, Neshon Missaghian, Nevada Hasbani, Sacha Missaghian, Amaya Missaghian and by two great grandchildren Estella and Lucas Torres with his 3rd great grandson on the way this August 2018.<\/p>\n<p>We will cherish all he has done, the love he gave and the lessons he taught. His sense of humour and laughter will be missed.\u00a0\u00a0 Dedek you will always be remembered and loved.<\/p>\n<p>We welcome you to celebrate his life with us on Saturday, June 9th, 2018 at KS on
